The Boston Convention center may be expanding in the near future. The $800 million building constructed in 2005, just in time for the Democratic convention, was first built in hopes to bolster private investments and development on the South Boston Waterfront. So far the building has only brought in people for conventions.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors released a report yesterday with the October numbers for Massachusetts real estate.

Compared to October 2008, home sales were up over 17 percent this October, and up 11.7 percent compared to September numbers. This year-over-year change of 17 percent was the largest year-over-year increase since November of 2004, much of which can be attributed to homebuyers trying to take advantage of the tax-credit.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) released a report today on existing home sales in the month of October. Sales were up yet again, now for the second straight month. Existing-home sales were up 10.1 percent in October compared to the September numbers, and reached the fastest annual rate since February of 2007. The annual rate of existing-home sales was up over 23 percent compared to October of last year.

Recent studies have found that fewer than 5 percent of borrowers that are in line for loan modification actually get a permanent, long term modification. Obama’s foreclosure prevention plan has received $75 billion in order to help troubled borrowers hold onto their homes. The effectiveness of the plan is being questioned.
